the Hocking County Ministerial Association is sponsoring the first annual FOLLOW THE LIGHT, Logan Church Tour. The tour will begin at 6:00 p.m. and end at 9:00 p.m. Participating churches are: St. Matthew Lutheran Church, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Immanuel United Methodist Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, St. John Catholic Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, and First Presbyterian Church. Three tour groups will depart from three locations (red, green, and yellow tickets) and be led by a tour guide. Each stop will provide an opportunity to enjoy the music, splendor and hospitality of the Advent and Christmas seasons. Church vans will be available for those unable to walk the tour. Tickets are available for $3.00. Children under 12 are free. All proceeds will be given to the Hocking Hills Inspire Shelter. Tickets are available in advance from each of the seven participating churches.

DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. SATURDAY & SUNDAY - Wayne National Forest Waives Trail Fees for Veterans Day Weekend; The fee waiver applies to trails only. Trails include all horse, all-terrain vehicle (ATV), off-highway motorcycle (OHM), mountain bike, and hiking trails. The Wayne offers over 360 miles of multiple-use trails. Campgrounds and other recreation fee sites are not part of this fee waiver. The fee waivers, the fourth this year, are offered in cooperation with other federal agencies under the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act. These fee waiver days support the America's Great Outdoors and Let's Move Outside national initiatives. "This is a way of saying thanks to the many veterans who have sacrificed their lives for our safety and freedom," said Carey. "We encourage veterans, their families and all visitors to take advantage of these "Fee Free" days as a way to experience the great outdoors, promote healthy living, and create lasting memories." DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. NOW OPEN - "DRAGONFLY" Zipline Adventure for Kids!; Created by your friends at Hocking Hills Canopy Tours, this zipline tour includes eight kid-friendly ziplines, four fun bridges. Now young zippers can enjoy the zipline experience just like adults as they fly from platform to platform taking in the natural beauty of Hocking Hills. Parents will be happy to know that DRAGONFLY zipline boasts a "continuous-belay" safety system that is the first of its kind in the zipline industry. FRIDAY - Rose Lake Canoe Excursion - 7pm; Join the naturalist and the HOCKING HILLS CANOE LIVERY for a naturalist guided trip around Rose Lake. The trip will take approx. 1 hour and will cover many aspects of canoeing safely while we search the lake for wildlife. SATURDAY - New Moon Glow Float - 7pm to 11pm; Paddle your canoe from sunset to darkness, lit only by the glimmering phosphorescent light of glow sticks reflecting on the water. End at the livery with a roaring bonfire and lively music meant for listening and dancing. BYOB. Reservations highly recommended. One glow stick provided. SUNDAY - Big Boy Toy Day/Ridgetop Music Fest - 11am; Old cars, go kart races, a road rally, great food, really good music, and airplanes rides can all be had by those who attend Big Boy Toy Day/Ridgetop Music Fest at the Vinton County Airport this Sunday, August 19 with events beginning at 11 a.m. when the go carts run hot laps until noon. Races will begin at noon. The Sojourners youth organization will sponsor an old car show and also a road rally during the day. Be at the airport at 11 a.m. for registration. Airplane rides will also begin at 11 a.m. and at that time skydivers will float to the earth marking the beginning of the event. Food will be served also beginning at 11 a.m. and food service will continue throughout the day. The Ridgetop Music Fest will feature some new acts this year and will begin at 4 p.m. The event, as usual, will offer a Five Minutes of Fame section where members of the audience can perform and some new faces have emerged for this segment. Parking on airport grounds will be $10 per carload, but there is no admission charge to attend either event. Come and spend the day at the scenic Vinton County Airport. The Vinton County Airport is located six miles north of McArthur just off St. Rt. 93 on Airport Road. THURSDAYS through SUNDAYS - Hand-feeding Hummingbirds - 1pm to 3pm; Come to the Lake Hope State Park Nature Center and learn about the ruby throated hummingbird and attempt to feed them. SATURDAY & SUNDAY - Train Rides with Historic Village Stop - noon & 2:30pm; Take a leisurely trip on a passenger train dating back to the 1920s. Hear about Hocking Valley history as you pass the remains of industries, canal locks and other historic landmarks. The noon trip to Haydenville covers 14 miles roundtrip and the 2:30 trip to Logan is 22 miles roundtrip. Through 2012 - "Logan and Hocking County...A Timeline" New Exhibit at the Historical Society features several hundred years of the county's history condensed into four panels on display. The timeline includes Native Americans, the first settlers (1798), the Civil War, the Hocking Valley Railway, and more...up to the year 1917, when Logan celebrated its centennial. DAILY - Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum - Mon to Sat, 9am to 5pm; Sun 11am to 5pm; Rev. Paul Johnson began his collection over 20 years ago. His Pencil Sharpener Museum, previously located at his home, has been moved to the Welcome Center and is open daily. This amazing collection of over 3400 pencil sharpeners has been featured in national magazines and is reputed to be the largest collection in the United States. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. Tours will be offered Monday through Friday at 10:00am, noon, and 2:00pm; Saturdays at 11:30am and 1pm. Special arrangements will be made for large groups.
